Proper mirror adjustment is CRITICAL, sadly too many people have them set to see the side of their car, not what is beside their car.

Yeah, if I’m behind a person and I can see their face in the side mirror they are not adjusted correctly. The only exceptions are work vehicles and the like that either have an obscured or non-existent rear-view mirror. 

It’s one of my pet peeves when I can fully see a driver’s face in their side view mirror when I am stopped directly behind them. They’ve given no thought to the uselessness of adjusting the side view mirrors to have the same view as the rear view mirror.

Best trick I use: check your review mirror every 10-15 seconds, just a quick glance. You then know what is happening behind you and can forecast people passing you (or about to). 10-15 sec sounds excessive? Not really, after you develop this reflex you don’t think about it.

I used to be able to do that on my 1983 Honda. But on my 1992 Camaro, I couldn’t. It had an interlock that prevented the starter from running unless the clutch was pressed in. I think there might have been some sort of new regulation requiring it.

I’ve done this numerous times in Volvo’s from the 60's. They did big batteries and a huge starter for car that size.
