I tried the battery swap thing in my82 Scirocco and it would not run without the battery.  

I loved my solid metal hand crank moon roof, that I could go from 0-75 in third gear if I dumbed the clutch and that it would run with the battery removed if it was started first. (I did not have jumper cables so I just borrowed the battery from my roomate’s cimmeron.
