Yup! For the cost of a motor, he gets a 2018 diesel truck. Put in a crate motor for 15K and drive that thing forever, assuming he has learned his lesson about oil changes. Or put in a used motor for a lot less money, and mind the oil changes. Either way, he is going to pay lots more to replace the entire truck.

With the right scan tools it is easier. Find the actual problem to fix.

So true. I don't want to take their software, I just want to he able to correctly fix my vehicle.  This they way.

As they said in the movie War Games way back when, the way to win this game is to not play.

I’ve pretty much stuck to a 3k-4k interval on the 3.6l in my 200 from the time I bought it nearly 10 years ago (IIRC, 4/7/22 will be the purchase date anniversary and it’s it his 10 y/o in December) and occasionally have extended that to around 5k. I also get the oil changed at the dealership I bought it from since I

The nice thing is recycling engine oil is easy enough to do. While I don’t like changing oil in a vehicle that I didn’t use that much, it can still end up with some impurities over time. So, it’s best to change it out in most cases.

I will change the oil in motorcycle once I hit a year on it, but I am kind of curious

👍

Here's your star

I never went by the oil life indicator when I had vehicles with them. I go by recommended intervals or time. Has it been a year? Changing it. Has it been 10K miles? (Yes, my motorcycle has a 10K interval, no joke) Whatever happens first.

Easy fix, don’t buy one, send a message.  I’m in the market for a new GTI and can’t find a base model for MSRP so I’m not buying one till they come down.  Prices should be back to normal in a few years, and if not, I’ll just keep driving what I have.

Well, if people will stop paying stupid prices, then they won’t cost so much.

He’s in Hawaii right now.  Seems like a tough drive.

yeah, because he’s the one tracking everyone else’s Teslas

Are you sure about that?

Off to a bad start.

That’s not gonna be a problem [puts on engineer hat].

This is the way.

Want me to put a squiggly in front of 20%? Would that make you happy?! :)

For some reason I am now feeling nostalgic about manual roll-up windows...

Technically it’s LIN based subsystem (Commonly referred to as ‘modules’) that is being monitored by CAN system but yes. This is the correct answer.
