David, I don’t care what anyone says, this is a nice score. I am a fan of picking up cars for reasonable and fixing them up. Even at the 2000 dollar price, with the value of XJ’s heading where they are, it’s even possible to make money on a builder title car like this one. Toss in the fully loaded thing minus…
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, I guess!
HAHAHAHAH.
I read this with deep fascination, as I was a Houston native for 31 years before moving to southern Kansas.
Alanis, you are absolutely correct...Houston has always been a nightmare to drive in, and it gives you some pretty fucking bad habits that are hard to shake. In my case, I figured out that if I wanted to get…
Yeah, yeah, I fucked up. I didn’t go read the FAQ before I posted. LOL!
Sometimes the simple solution eludes us......just excavate a few feet, and make the road lower! Standard minimum bridge clearance is 16 feet. so, we need 4' 2" , plus the thickness of road material...call it 5 feet excavation to be safe.
Darren, mine has been pretty doggone good. I put somewhere around 30 to 35 thousand miles a year on a car, and my ‘06 V8 has been stellar. Interesting tidbit on the gas mileage.....the V6 is underpowered enough that it offers no mileage benefit, plus it has the distinction of being a time bomb. Mine gets about 20…
Frank, my man, you need sensible shoes. I would recommend a 4th gen Ford Explorer, with a V8 engine. The 4.6L is as stout as they come, and the 6R80 behind it is the same part as in an F150. It’s got style, substance, and automatic 4wd. These can be had cheap with all the toys, and being Fords, they cost peanuts to…

OK, great! Now bring gas prices down. God forbid I save a few bucks at the pump so I can actually spend it with other people to help stimulate the economy.
My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 4.0L straight six. 355,000 miles. No rust. Engine still has compression figures within new build specs for an AMC 4.0L.
Starts. Every. Goddamned. Time.
I have a standard process with every new purchase. We’ll use my 2006 Ford Explorer that I purchased last October, with 112,000 miles on it:
^^Kinja’d! Damn it.
Oh, my god, so much this. The last two vehicles I have sold on the CL were a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a 2004 Ford Police Interceptor. To start with, I wasn’t asking a huge amount of money for either, somewhere in the 3500 dollar neighborhood.
The ‘95 Grand Cherokee my daughter will get to use is at 355,000 miles, and in outstanding shape with zero rust, and excellent mechanicals. We did just spend a few bones on it, replacing the interior, and all of the suspension, steering, and brakes. It was still FAR cheaper than buying something else, plus the car has…
