The entitlement of these folks once they finally do enter the working world is fucking ridiculous. I've worked with far too many of them since we moved here. I like resumes where the person has worked some shit jobs - nothing makes you appreciate 8 hours of general peace in a cubicle more than a few years of front-end…
The other problem is the unrealistic expectations. Nobody at my school, either this year or in past years (when the economy was booming) wanted to go work at a firm. And I'm still subjected daily to speeches from highly idealistic right-out-of-undergrad people about how they'd never, ever, in a million years, go work…
Meh - I found the most annoying to be those about 3 years removed. They wanted to relive the college that they felt they had missed out on.
Really? I met a pretty solid group of people in law school. I mean, they were the minority, but I generally didn't hate the people I went to school with.
Not to mention, my two roommates and their friends do nothing but talk about law school all day. They get home from class, and discuss the various things they learned in class that day, and the implications for "justice" and the rule of law in society. This is what they're doing right now in the living room.
The problem with many of the girls in law school isn't so much that they're smart so guys aren't interested. Many are either annoying or unattractive.
This, I heard all the time from the women I knew in law school. Which I always found mystifying (because it never occurred to me to think like that, and I can't think like that even if I wanted to try).
You are one block from the GW freshmen dorm, Thurston Hall, at 19th & F. If I remember correctly, Francis Scott Key Hall was on 20th at F.
Penn by 24th.
How come?
I've been to 51st State near GW. It's near where I use to live 25 years ago. Too bad it wasn't there back then. Could of used it.
I used to work for an association that was directly above McFaddens. The other interns LOVED going there after work just about every night. That's how I knew that gig wasn't for me.
Also, I keep forgetting that last night was Sunday. I have no idea what's going on this week, but it's not anything good.
44, I grew up in the MD suburbs and now I live downtown, so between me and Jerkwheat we should be able to tell you anything you need to know about the area.
I moved out here at the end of '04 and I'm generally a fan of it. Your coming from NYC so the cost of living is actually going to be a drop for you, so you've got that going for you.
I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts, Professor, on life in DC in general. I'm going to be down there for the summer (stupid New York job market), and have never spent more than a day or two.
Chatty broads.
I'll grant you that it was much, much harder to keep up than normal (but I've always been a fast reader). And I can see not caring enough to work that hard. Nor do I want that every week (much less every day). But it was interesting as a one-timer.
I have a question for you. Do ya'll think less of fans, women specifically, who are only interested in one team, and follow other teams just to see what we're up against? I've never really had sports fans as friend until my current partner, so I'm getting into SEC and ACC college football and I've always been a Braves…
