Or the other way around. Small turbos for low to mid end boost. Electric power unit to boost top end. The turbos could be connected via a shaft that turns a generator (a la AMG F1) to charge a battery pack or bank of capacitors (which charge/discharges much quicker than batteries).

Mazda’s halo car will not be a 4-cylinder. To do so makes zero sense for the company. My money is on a mild or performance hybrid with a rotory making up the ICE part. Some might shoot down the electrification theory... but, remember the recently announced partnership with Toyota and Subaru.

2020 marks Mazda’s centennial. Need I say more?
