That car is likely an “Uber Black” or “Uber Lux” which requires a livery/chauffeur license, and a luxury car.
Uber also gutted the black car for hire market, as well.

That article is from mid 2018, and is in the UK.
Drivers in the US, get paid on a mile/min basis. There is no “25%” cut. Even still, the updated comission cut before the switch to upfront pricing was actually 28%, not 25%.
Incorrect. The Driver is paid per mile, per minute. What you pay is unrelated to what the driver gets paid.
I think it’s crazy that everyone thinks the associated costs of owning a car evaporate when it becomes self-driving.
Lyft and Uber only generate profit because they don’t have any vehicle maintenance costs.
Lyft and Uber eliminate drivers....then what? They have big buy in to purchase or lease a fleet of self driving…
But, it USED to be a living wage job! In 2015, drivers could live on what they made! Now, not so much.
Stop repeating that “was not meant to be a full time job” lie. Uber and Lyft would come grinding to a halt if people only “drove as a side gig”.
With rate cuts, surge pricing removal (FOR THE DRIVER. NOT THE PASSENGER), and other changes, drivers are working 60+ hours to make less than they did a year ago working 40…
Man, these comments are super disappointing - why are yall so adamant about sticking up for corporations? Are they paying you?
Let’s go over some things here:
1. Back in 2015, Uber and Lyft actually did pay a very nice wage. Remember all the fluff pieces backed by Uber and Lyft talking about drivers earning over 100K…
There may not be a “job shortage” but the cost of living is higher than it’s been in a lot of places where the jobs are. Many are forced to keep doing gigs like this because having just one job isn’t really possible anymore.
Even living in central Ohio, with a comparatively low cost of living and strong job…
These comments are very disheartening.
Also, “Surge pricing” is a myth. I personally still get surge/power zone pricing for my Lyft/Uber rides, but many drivers don’t anymore. Lyft and Uber literally have been charging the rider a surge price, and not paying the driver any of that change. Rates in many cities keep…
I’m a lyft driver and I turn down any and all minor children requesting rides unaccompanied by an adult:
1. It breaks terms of service and I could lose my “job”
Actually, you could get the Renegade manual on several trim levels, not just the base ones.
It’s because of the engine. This new 1.0L and 1.3L turbo engines are replacing the 1.4T Fiat and the 2.4L tiger shark in most markets. Despite the take rate of the 1.4T 6MT being OK, it probably didn’t make sense to develop a MTX for the 1.3L, which is a damn shame.
I almost forgot, Uber says I drive a Chevrolet Beat. Which was never sold in the US. I drive a Sonic.
Lyft also quietly instituted a “subcompact car ban” (not Uber, though), but if you look at the banned car list, it’s clearly made by someone who doesn’t know the first thing about cars. It doesn’t affect cars that are already approved for the service, but just new people who want to register. They’re catching a bit of…
Lyft driver here. They’re bad companies who don’t know shit about cars.
I was in a not-at-fault accident a few weeks ago while driving for Lyft. The other driver kept playing games about reporting it to his insurance, so I had to start the process via Lyft’s insurance. I live in Ohio, and drive a Chevy Sonic.
Lyft’s…
The Avenger isn’t *unreliable* in the sense that it has a penchant for leaving you stranded. Those cars probably have several non-essential sensors not working, and like most Chrysler products the front end parts seem to be made of stale wonder bread so it probably knocks and creaks and groans over bumps....but it…
It wasn’t a twist-beam. It was a solid axle.
LOL. I’m just saying this isn’t like Japan or India where there’s no real laws or cultural rules that codify the separation of women and men. The “women’s only” train cars and other spaces exist in those countries because there’s issues with men harassing women and generally being awful and gross. And women wanted a…
Before this comments section turns into a dumpster fire, is this a positive move, or is this a way for Saudi women to actually work and use the service as a rider or driver, because Saudi Arabia literally has Sharia Law and thus rules about the intermingling of the sexes is very different than the west...
Yeah, I agree. I don’t think he’s all that good at actually modernizing designs. Especially since he’s basically just airbrushing existing photos.
