It's made all the worse because both characters are quite poorly fleshed out considering how long they've been in the show - so much so that Rosita's "we both shagged the same dead guy" pretty much sums them both up.

I agree with your analysis, and also about Christina (still my all-time fave) and Alex, but I still think Mer is a very solid lead and a useful foil for the arguably more interesting characters to bounce off. I'd say she's well in my top 10 of fave characters, probably only behind Christina, Alex, Richard, and Bailey.

Also, it gave more screen time to Jake to bore us and Papa Pope to go on multiple neverending rants.
