I mean 0 of 29 women completed IOC in the marines. So the standards are a worrisome issue.

The other big concern is that the standard will be lowered to achieve the objective of having women in the job whether they can pass the higher standard or not.
This is a significant change and change is scary. They’ll get over it.
I can understand somewhat the initial concern about physical strength but this is negated by the mandatory requirements. Aka if she can meet the physical strength required, then she has every right to be there.
Abagail Fisher wound up at LSU. I’m not saying that LSU is better known for drinking than academics, but I don’t know how else to finish that sentence. You kind of give up getting choice out on colleges when you blow an 1180 on your SAT.
“People get so into picking apart the individual instances that they can’t see the forest for the trees.”
The narrative is that colleges don’t take rape seriously, and that the victims aren’t adequately protected by school administration. If Rolling Stone and the producers of Hunting Ground can’t find any cases where that truly happens, maybe the narrative is wrong.
I thought the Hunting Ground was sensationalistic and more intent on pushing an agenda than reporting facts. I felt that way before reading Yoffe’s article too.
Yep. That letter basically boiled down to, “These students are adults in the eyes of the law. They can figure some stuff out on their own.”
No one is interested in facts, smarty pants. Take that shit back to your fancy pants university!
Did anyone actually read the Yale professors response to the halloween costume letter?
You’re making this look like America’s dumbest generation. Millennials living up to their reputation. Complaining about how good they have it. Fucking best education on the planet, opening doors of opportunity 99.999% of humans that have ever existed couldn’t dream of, and this is what they do with it: Whine?!?
What? How is a retracted and factually incorrect story about an alleged rape GOOD for raising awareness about rape culture?
If anything, it’s extremely harmful, because it creates doubt about an accusation, which is arguably the biggest reason “rape culture” exists in the first place. Your logic here is very flawed.
Opi…
I love the story! Also, read that speech and it’s a delight. I’m jealous that you got to meet him. He passed the year before I got to law school, so I just heard lots of really wonderful stories like yours.
Suddenly I get your username.
I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Mr. Ginsburg. He loved law and he loved the people who studied it. He bent over backwards to help students who had trouble and stayed late, did private tutoring and was an all around amazing professor. He inspired thousands to become the best they could. One of his…
Martin Ginsburg taught tax law at my law school. Every story I ever heard about him was a positive one. He was apparently a delight to study with, a delight to his colleagues, and generally considered to be one of the best professors there.
It’s absolutely amazing how much 7th changed in the three years when I was there, from 2011-2014.
I’m not convinced that churches are “fleeing to the suburbs” because they’re being persecuted, but rather because all their congregants are moving out there and prefer to attend churches closer to their homes. Of course parking is a nightmare if no one lives nearby. Your one morning a week doesn’t get to dictate city…
If it’s too congested and expensive for churches to be in a particular area, is that really a violation of their rights? Do they have a constitutional right to prime urban real estate? I think not.
