Yeah the Sport XJ’s and other Jeeps were just cheaper models with the “big” engines as options, thought i was dusappointed that at one point, you couldn’t get the NV242 transfer case in the Sport directly from Jeep, only with the police package and the more expensive trims

It was a Cherokee, not a Wrangler, but it was available in 2 and 4 doors, I think base was the 2.5L I-4 on the XJ, MJ (Comanche), and TJ (Wrangler), but that was more of a lighter, stripped down version of those that you could also get the 4.0l in. Later non-Wrangler “Sport” models were along the same lines, but…
