Right, and that’s a good point someone else made as well, we don’t know how many of these people are just taking the liquidity if it’s there. I have to believe it’s not everyone though, and added in with the 30% that have previous payment issues, it’s enough to provide as evidence that way too many people are living

As an inverse to that, my wife is trying to convince me to move to middle of nowhere TX so that we can have a mansion without having a higher mortgage payment. There’s a middleground between that and CA prices that I prefer to stay in.

I absolutely believe you are wealthy. It just had no bearing on the discussion.  You could have just as easily made your point - which was already made and discussed, btw - without your personal anecdote about how well off you are.

I’m sorry you picked to live in a place with such a high cost of living.

Your humblebrag isn’t all that relevant here; the overwhelming majority of the 1.1m people discussed in the article are surely not those with summer homes and “diamond-plated credit cards” (wtf even is that?).

Fair arguments. If a full 70% of people in this small sample set requesting deferment are perfect borrowers, you’re right that a good portion are probably playing it safe. But that still leaves us with the probability that a significant amount of people are requesting this out of necessity, including the 30% that have

Being fired/layed off is not that rare of an event. Sure the macro reason behind it this time was a once in a lifetime thing, but companies restructure all the time.

Good for you!  I can’t fathom having what amounts to another half to two thirds of a mortgage payment hanging over my head every month for a pair of cars. I’m plenty happy picking up 5-6 year old used cars for cash after the first owner pays the 60% depreciation tax.

I feel terrible for the guy at my office who appears to have bought a brand new Silverado RST last fall after getting bumped up to the “big leagues” from a distribution center hourly gig. I’m sure his paycheck skyrocketed relative to his hourly wage, but that thing still had to have been financed to the moon.

What even is this article? Like others have said, that check is to help folks make ends meet. If you don’t need it, I sure hope people aren’t splurging on useless crap. You can instead:

Prices dropping this far isn’t 100% due to the same reason we’re being told to stay home.  Russia and the Saudis not playing nice drove the price into the dirt as well.  Had they cut supply back in March, we wouldn’t have historic lows today.

My grandpa carried mail for years by foot and my dad was a postal service lifer (office though, not delivery). I’ll have to get one of these for my dad to put on his desk.  And a matching one for my little dude, who loves pull back cars right now :)

Our neighborhood has a row of about 10 houses backed up to each other into a little common playground area more less. Lots of playsets, trampolines, volleyball, football, soccer, tag, etc going on all summer with grade school kids.

I can tell you already that this will not take. Kids have been playing in groups of 10+

Yep, three cars but I haven’t been to a gas station since February. Ironic that the reason gas is cheap is the same reason we won’t buy it cheap.

It would seem to me that, if you see your peers moving up and out, you may want to step up your game if you want to follow them. Posting garbage like this won’t get you a better gig.

Agreed, and Erik in particular has a regular problem.  A good portion of what he writes seems to be just his own shower thoughts that are never run by anyone before posting.

I just posted the exact same thing. The headline and Erik’s words on this page have no basis in reality. With Balaban gone, do they have no one even editing for basic coherence of thought?

Erik, the interviewer asked two questions specifically about Tesla in the quotes you pasted. The Porsche dude did not offer up Tesla as a comparison on his own, he simply answered the questions.

What in the world is this article about?

Everything” = fake vents... that aren’t even all fake.
