I keep thinking of little anecdotes to build upon your point, but I shouldn’t...you’ve said it all and well. 

My in-laws are terrified about how the terrorists will kill us when we go on vacation to NYC. Because everyone there dies every day, apparently. 

I’m from one of those rural areas and I’ve heard the explicit version many times. I don’t get the Pelosi thing. I mean, I get that GOP voters, including their elected reps, do as their told and go lockstep. But Pelosi can’t herd one sheep, much less the collection of cats that is the democratic caucus.

I live in a tiny city in the rust belt. My spouse just took a job working in farm country about a half hour outside the city. Her coworkers legit believe that rape and murder happen daily here and we’ll be mugged if we go out after dark. Meanwhile, their little towns are havens for meth production and DV.

And in every case I worked on, their formula was “proprietary” so I, as homeowner’s counsel, could only resubmit documents and ask for a new analysis, never run my own to explain the “no” we kept getting.

Papa John’s went on a massive territorial expansion. The result, in every other food franchise I can think of and the CFL, is overexpansion followed by some losses after that “everything is new and shiny” period. But in his target demographic, blaming millenials probably resonates really well.
