I spent 3 years at FCA after the Fiat merger, and they never actually realized any of the efficiencies that merger was supposed to create.  There were a couple shared platforms, but in reality they operated like a separate companies with a few products in common.  

Not only is the tarriff on American cars high, they force foreign automakers into a joint venture with a domestic company in order to produce vehicles there.

The issue is balance...if you increase the quality of one part by $1, that’s easy enough to account for. But each car is comprised of thousands of parts, so you have to decide where to spend the money, or you end up with a car nobody will buy.

Dodge made trucks for like 90 years before they split off to the stand alone Ram brand. There is a lot of precedent of Dodge making normal cars and trucks.

I think the vehicles themselves are apples and oranges. The E-Transit is a traditional “van” with an electric powertrain, where this is a commercial step van more in-line with a UPS Delivery truck that is larger and operates in a different space. This truck has a higher GVWR and can afford to package more batteries…
