Same. The kids complaining about how Jalop has changed from (I assume?) the Patrick George days have no idea.

Back in the very early 90's I got pulled over for 78 in a 55 on a clear sunny day with light traffic. Trooper actually asked me, “Where’s the fire.” Acted like I was a menace to society. Went to court, charges got reduced to 69 in a 55 (14 over is a far less serious charge in my state than anything 15 over.) On top of

I like the writeup, and I’m seeing the arguments I expected to see in the comments as well as some other comments that aren’t arguments (sure, they’re there.)

Ever since I bough a house I’ve been thinking about getting a truck “just in case”. These “just in case” only happen a few times a year. I hate asking to borrow people’s trucks and the near rental place is 45min away. I hope the new Ford Maverick brings back the small practical truck, cause there are few people who

Sorry you are correct walmart. Targét is for the fancy.

Target? Nah, that doesn’t sound right. That’s where fancy boys get their boxer briefs.

I think speed limit enforcement makes it entirely too easy for cops to look like they’re doing their jobs, when in reality all they’re doing is sitting under a bridge with a radar/lidar gun and generating revenue for their department.

This is exactly why in any reasonable discussion about speed limits you’ll hear about the 85th percentile rule. Many traffic engineering manuals recommend measuring the 85th percentile speed on a road in free flowing conditions and then setting the limit above that point.

...and driver education.

My ‘18 Tacoma can do 80, but it’s not happy about it.

It’s not lack of education, people don’t care.

While I kind of still want it to be in place, I just know that every single car “enthusiast” who doesn’t know the difference between a intercooler and a radiator will go take the tier 2 test, fail, go buy some fake plates, and then kill someone because they decided that taking a 90 degree turn at 60mph is a great idea.

186.3 miles per milisecond. It’s not just a suggestion, its the Law.

There should be a two tiered driving license.

Way back when they had 75% speed limits. 75% of drivers would be at or below that speed even if there wasn’t a limit.

80 in my Jeep TJ is not something I enjoy doing. All speed limits should be 60 and highways should be abolished because the shaking starts at 65.

Speed limit is not the problem.  The problem is the complete lack of lane discipline in this country.

How true. It doesn’t matter how fast the state will let you drive if there is some jackass doing 50 in the passing lane.

In France (and many places in Europe) it is 130kmh or 80mph. I think we could push it a little bit around 140kmh /85-90mph

Speed limits are fine in most cases. Whats sorely lacking is enforcement and education about passing lanes. Until that’s fixed it doesn’t matter how much you raise the limits, I’ll still be stuck flashing my high beams at some idiot doing 50 in the passing lane on I-95 who moved to that lane position immediately after
