Slalom is not a discipline, it's an event. Alpine skiing is a discipline. Granted slalom is probably one of the most prestigious winter Olympics events, but there are several other alpine skiing events (giant slalom, super G, the downhill, and then either the combined or the super combined or both, I'm not sure).
