Here... What everyone actually came for, the side by side.

I prefer the GM Performance version they made. RWD and 665 HP.

Someone will always complain. I’m not sure a single person account is the best way to cover a change this large.

$15hr was decent money... 20 fucking years ago.

......Part out?..............too soon? yeah, too soon.

Nope, I don’t own one. I’ve never had a BMW, actually...

I like the E36 better (for street driving) than the E30 because I’m not a fan of the high-strung feeling of what amounts to a race car on the street, and I like it better than the E46 because that one is just a little too fat. E36 is the Goldilocks Just Right M3

Agree. That steering wheel is atrocious. Only contemporary MB’s of the same era with those egg (surprise!) shape appendages on the steering wheel are as equally offensive.

The 996 has a truly hideous interior.  Luckily Porsche realised they fucked it up, and like the headlights went more traditional again afterwards.

Came here to say this. That interior is truly barf inducing... I’d rather stare at a C5 dash. The rest of the car is pretty cool though, the exterior design is clean Porsche and the headlights don’t bother me. Maybe with a Momo wheel and some modern race buckets it’ll be bearable.

‪Nah. You even admit that the interior is bad, right before mentioning its IMS issues! The interior alone is a huge part of the car’s design, not to mention the thing you’re stuck looking at when you drive a stock one. It looks like their design inspiration was that Ford Taurus in there.

No, it isn’t. The bumpers look like emaciated flesh on the dead bones of a carcass found in the desert. The headlights are a crime against taste and harmony. The doors are...notable by their nothingness. They exist. They le you get in and out of the car. They might as well have strapped a portaloo on the side as a

Counterpoint - it’s the ugliest 911 ever made.

Ironic to mention the 996's “plasticky hellscape” interior and then say “you don’t have to look at it from the driver’s seat.” Searching for an affordable Porsche, my budget allowed for a 996 or a 987. Unable to get past those damn headlights and miserable interior, I chose the latter.

The fact that how to adjust timing on an older motor needs to be explained on an automotive site, makes me feel old :(

Replace rail cars with postal Jeep. Enjoy a stress-free life.

Man, that map has you at an average speed of 55 MPH.  That seems unlikely/terrifying in that Jeep.

The article...isn’t actually that much different.

Alternate heading:

You had the option - for about the same money or less - to drive a one-way premium rental car on an ~10 hour ride through some of the best road-tripping country the US has to offer.... And you took Amtrak?!?

No Manual AWD?! I’m gonna throw a tantrum...
