A beat up leaky 3.2 that needs a rebuild costs probably between 3-5 grand. A fresh 3.2 costs about 8-12 grand. 911 engines are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Also, since I'm on the subject of perverse engine swaps... here's what I think would be a badass commuter (high speed, long distance, high mpg).

FYI, 1975 Porsche 911s had the legendarily awful 2.7 liter, which produced about 160-180hp, depending on who you believe. So it really isn't that much weaker than the original power plant...and for a daily, it'd probably be decent on gas. Air cooled engines leak a lot and aren't very efficient. My 77 911 gets 23mpg…

How are the turn signals similar at all? One is a horizontal rectangle... the other is a 45 degree swooshy rectangle. The grill shape is similar, but so are a million other grill shapes. Again, you're the first person I've heard saying the WRX was retro... and I know a lot of WRX owners.

I love the hawkeye. Anyway, my whole point was they went from something AMAZING and to something less than amazing. Since I hold the GC8 in the highest regard, even though I kind of dig the bugeye, I still find it a horrible restyling job due to how much it sucked compared to the GC8.
