Amazon has a bunch of mostly Chinese made compact 12v portable fridge/freezers that are quite cheap. See this here:

I bought one of these 3 years ago (the Bodega brand) and while it’s not as powerful as my Whynter, it is plenty adequate and will freeze food overnight and has worked hard much of that 3 years. You can

I love minivans, as I noted in another reply, I have a 2015 Odyssey I love.

However, it’s time for an EV minivan or at least a battery first PHEV minivan (not the 25 mile range or so Pacifica). They need to be brought into the modern era.

The other problem is that people started to notice them in the pandemic and

This is true.  I own a 2015 Odyssey I’ve had since new.  I’ve done every minivan thing you can do with it and it still drives like it’s new almost...literally in the last few weeks noticed the first front strut going bad.  10 years.  166,000 miles.  Not bad.

They are showing up more frequently than I would’ve guessed where I live. I think this price change will kill a lot of demand though. The funny thing is, if it weren’t for Musk or for its polarizing look (and the fact that its particular look makes it have problems like pronounced noise at highway speeds, etc), I

Tesla does this with their Model Y Dual Motor... but it’s more like $1500 or $2K. I don’t remember.

I wonder if they did it because it cuts some range, thus with the lower power number they could advertise a better range.

what a beautiful monster! I can’t imagine driving it, or using it, tbh, but that’s quite a feat of engineering and hacking. It’s not something I would ever do or want. It sure looks like it would just roll on its side with one wrong sharp turn but maybe the center of gravity is really in that RV chassis, given the

Agreed.  I wouldn’t mind having a manual for fun’s sake, but it would not be a V8 muscle car.   I love how my Model Y drives.

I like thinking about the bullshit the anti-EV people say while I am driving my Model Y that I recently purchased. It’s so much less of a pain in the ass to drive than the ICE cars I own and certainly less money, especially when plugged into my Solar PV install.

I’d consider a modern RV. While I like these things, maintenance on an old one is another part time job, unless you get one that someone fixed up a lot, but then you’ll pay a ton for it.

I do like that they incinerate your poop though... or some of them do.

As someone who has done a long commute, I can assure you that even with exceptionally high housing costs, a long commute doesn’t save you money. Either you change jobs or you eat the costs of the higher housing. We added 20 minutes to a commute and it added $1000/month in actual costs. I know this because I worked it

I posted a similar comment. My parents had warranty repair multiple times on their trailer with no problems.

Also, yes, the RV repair guy I know has a 6 month lead time typically speaking.

By law you can boondock on BLM land if you follow the rules for dispersed camping, etc. It’s both easy and common.   It’s just that not everyone cares to boondock... which makes me happy because I rather enjoy boondocking.

You don’t have to spend a ton on a travel trailer. The advantage starts to work when you consider that the ideal use case is for an outdoorsy kind of activity where you have everything you need including your gear—stuff that is hard or even impossible to schlep into/out of a hotel room. While some activities you have

A couple of thoughts. This is not everyone’s experience. My parents bought a decent fifth wheel two years ago and they have had warrany service on it twice with no problems. But then again, they didn’t buy a low end model and bought an extended warranty.

That said, I own a small travel trailer. It requires a fair

I do love my travel trailer... but it’s a small one. It’s nice having everything you need in one place and being able to go where you want when you want. It’s nice driving in the middle of nowhere and stopping at a rest area for a nice meal and a nap. They have their drawbacks, but I have kids and hotels get pricey

Progressive... $800/yr. Just paid them. New Model Y Long Range.  $1K deductibles.   Of course, this is not NY, NJ, CA prices, so, there’s that.

I literally just paid Progressive for a quote on a Model Y Long Range...  $1k deductibles, ~$800/yr.   Not too bad for what is effectively a sport/performance sedan in acceleration.

So I just want to say that I’m not sure this is true. The reason? I got an insurance quote on a new Tesla and it was no different that the other normal cars I own.

I can tell you that if Teslas were more expensive to repair, INSURANCE RATES WOULD REFLECT THAT FOR DAMN SURE.

So this means that HERTZ is more likely the

I would appreciate the court case that would follow and that they would be paying for my car plus a vacation or two.

I continue to maintain that anyone who has a complaint against BEVs, used BEVs, or Teslas aside from Musk, simply hasn’t driven one yet and thought about the actual aspects of owning one. Yes, if it’s your only car and you do things like lots of hauling, long distance driving, then maybe it’s not a good use case. But
