I disagree. Sort of... While I’ve only put a few thousand miles on my IX, I had a DD VIII that lasted north of 12x,xxx miles before I sold it. Word from the buyer is that it’s still going strong as his DD as well. The only issue I had was the T-case, which was fixed under warranty.
