My favorite was a 1968 Ford Cortina GT. It was fun to drive, had a terrific manual transmission and a fairly large trunk. With 1600cc and over 90 raging horsepower, it was well suited to spirited driving on the streets. It also worked well with the rudimentary child safety seats of the time.

Lotus Carlton is a good runnerup to the E39 M5.

I’ve owned all 4 gens of the SHO. The first gen was my favorite, especially the first year. The 89s were built to be hustled around corners. The later first gens had smaller sway bars, etc. to yield a better ride.

The Lotus Carlton , probably the only car on this list that was actively campaigned to be banned from production for being too fast.

Drive it another 600 miles and you’ll forget about it. When you come to a stop it’s easy to just keep spinning the dial left, it becomes like 2nd nature. Patience young one. 

Takes a ton less space in the center console so you have more room for cupholders and drive modes and what not. Plus auto shifts to park if you unbuckle your seatbelt and open the driver door. It’s great. Author really just digging for something to write about here
