Right. But so what? What business does a foreign company have trying to legally influence this debate?

I agree that it is a pain when everything is closed on Sunday. When I was a teen in a country that didn't allow Sunday trading, I was frustrated because I couldn't make money on Sunday.

This is not simply a religious law. Having a day off once a week is ingrained into the French culture. At any rate, if the French are happy with it, why would you think anyone should be telling them to change?

Are you French? I wonder what your attitude is about foreign companies trying to force their norms on the US?

You are making yourself look ridiculous, to be frank. How do you know what experience people here have with Pakistan/Pakistani women?

No problem. I certainly agree that hero-worshiping Anonymous is a bad idea. But I do think their work is very important. When we can't rely on regular authorities like the police, then we need organizations like Anonymous.

Amen to your comment.

My apologies. Thank you for providing a link.

lethekk, you are being more gracious than most would be in your response to Scobies. This girl is in the news because there was an assassination attempt. It is not racist or ignorant to assume that she faces a similar risk if she returns to Pakistan.

Right. This incident never would have seen the light of day if not for Anonymous. You have to wonder how many other incidents like it are being hushed up. I am now a huge Anonymous supporter.

I am glad that you elaborated on the strategies you had in mind other than advising young women not to drink to the point of incapacitation. Yes, I do agree that we should teach everyone not to drink to excess and to respect bystander programs and specific methods for staying safe in social situations.

I don't hear that very often!! Thanks.

I certainly agree that rape prevention should focus on potential perpetrators. We have been talking about this for years and it has never happened. I think this is a major problem and that we should be making more of a fuss about it.

I already addressed that.

You have paid no attention to what I have said. Again—that link you provided was just like this one—someone's exaggerated, overblown spin on what Emily thinks and says, not what she actually has said. I'm not sure how else to explain why it is important to hear directly from the source—Emily—not someone who is

OK, now we seem to be jumping the shark.

Well, it's very late where I am right now and I am too sleepy to do this issue justice. But yes, I do think Erin is barking up the wrong tree.

The headline of Emily Yoffe's article is obnoxious, but she probably didn't choose it. her editors would have.

We are told that what happened was recorded on video and that it amounted to sexual assault.

I really don't know what they expected me to do. Once, they discovered that I used something as a makeshift pad and totally freaked out because it turned out to be valuable. But they still didn't click that maybe they should pay for tampons.
