Ugh, as someone who lives outside of Vancouver, this is painfully accurate. My city council tried to justify dumping oodles of high rises by “making housing more affordable”. Prices still went up, and most of the new units are presold, yet never see a tenant inside of them.

I read that Vancouver tried to make that more difficult with certain residential requirements for foreign buyers. When I lived near Seattle, they tried to copy it, but it was ruled discriminatory and got shot down in courts.
