It’s debatabe how much of a consecutive continuity South Park is meant to have, but Cartman really hasn’t been following through all that much for the past ten years. He’s been a self-defeating butt of every joke even in the 2-3 “recent” times he succeeded.

That’s a very Moffat kind of twist though, which is much different which is my different from Dan Harmon’s brand of 2smart4u storytelling.
