While the z4m is an amazing car it sort of piggy backed off of the e46 in my opinion though. I've always respected the e46 as have many other people, that currently is my favorite m car but to each their own.

I will defend the original 912, and the 914 despite their meager horsepower and acceleration.

Its been close to 10 years since I sold my 944 (based on the 924, also a transaxle design) but I remember a few of the posters on the message boards back then had done a SMC transplant. I can't remember how.

I call bullshit. Everyone knows that the E30 odometers fail around 150,000 miles...

I'd put the E86 M coupe much higher up the list. It's a very involving driving experience.

Maybe ahead of the regular E46 M3, but not the CS, and definitely not the CSL.

I've never been a fan of the Z4's looks, in coupe form or otherwise, but you make some really valid and excellent points. Thanks for weighing in.

Ugh, shut up. It's all in fun, and I even invited you to disagree with me. You don't have to be such a tool about it.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Thanx Zuzax!

I also worry that for other noobs who read this article will end up thinking this is a definitive list of M cars. This isn't journalism, it isn't even blogging, it's just poor.

I'm not sure how Patrick makes these noobie mistakes all the time. It's like as if he's never heard of M before or forgot to do his research properly.

I never thought this was very good looking until my father bought one. After looking at it for long enough I've grown to love it. And driving it is another treat entirely. I'm currently having trouble deciding whether I like driving this or the '14 Corvette more.

Its way better looking than the z3 m coupe IMO.

E85 Z4 M should be ahead of the E46 and and E36/7 Z3 M. It's the last, best of the S54-equipped M cars. So few were made that not that many people have gotten to experience them. They are wonderful.

Angrily protesting the absence of the E86 M Coupe.

I had the same thought. And you can play solitaire while waiting for the tow truck! Ha. The only thing I was disappointed by was no dyno printout. How do you build something like this and not get on a dyno? But it is good to see a reasonable price again. It had started to feel like this should be called "How big of a
