... Have you never heard of celiac? Sometimes it develops later in life. A very good friend of mine, who is one of the most avid beer drinkers I know, just found out she’s celiac and it devastated her because whenever she drinks beer now she gets sick. 

She was already a vegetarian though, she said she has been since she was a child. And when you haven’t eaten meat in a long time, your body has a problem digesting the meat. So at this point, going back to eating meat would present its own problems.
