Every time this column pops up, my brain goes straight to the shoe’s emotional health. This shoe seems morose.

Ugh my ex’s mom was like that. I was breaking up with him for the first time (it took two to stick), his mother called me, crying: “You’re hurting my baby! Why would you hurt my baby?!”

There was a very enlightening interview about the Koch brothers on Fresh Air today, they are likewise inescapable. The interviewee was author Christopher Leonard who wrote “Kochland".

Yep I meant for the middle e to be “leh”, more taking issue with the idea that pronouncing it “Marleen” was some odd East Coaster thing.

Odd, life long East Coaster here, never heard it pronounced any way but “Marlena".

Seriously, the practitioners who kept going on about the patients’ inability to release toxins - so shocking - they’re taking a ton of supplements a day, so their liver and kidneys probably aren’t too happy! They stay feeling horrible, which keeps them under the care of irresponsible practitioners.

OKC was a decent experience for me too. I had a couple of relationships and met a lot of good guys who I became friends with. Aside from the “old enough to be my dad”, and the “I could technically be your mom” contingents, I really didn’t receive any correspondence that was gross or disrespectful (I know this is rare).

My high school actually had many of the articles archived, separated from the magazine as a whole, of course.

The book was so much a cautionary tale, the movie was almost irresponsible in its depiction. From the numerous times people helped him in his cross country trek, to the role his mental health may have played in the decision to make that journey in the manner he did.

I immediately thought of that Black Mirror episode. It's gotta be exhausting being that "up" all the time, especially at the age where teen angst is pretty high (or at least it was for me).

Thanks! It's been years since I read the book and I remember mention of provisions being left there but the details got a bit fuzzy. 

I know his family sponsored or somehow made sure that the bus had supplies for other hikers in case they found themselves in distress, but I don’t know if they still do or if others have kept up the practice.
