A day late and a dollar short.
A day late and a dollar short.
There's an old joke that goes something like this: Before they turned the company over to John Young, Bill and Dave sent him a memo that read: "Always be sure to keep our company in the hands of Mormons". But unfortunately due to a dictation transcription error, the second M got accidentally dropped and the rest is…
Not even a helmet? Someone has a lot of faith in their programmers, or they have *really* good safety systems, since a robot like that could kill you in a moment if something goes wrong.
P.S., I have to say that the article title, here and on MSNBC where it seems to be presented as a news story (via Google news etc.) is just a bit over the top.
Blah, blah, hyperbole, blah, blah.
Nuts, I thought it was going to be a 1,000 ton ball of of silly putty...
@Snes: And also significantly younger than the "magic smoke" joke...
@karoooszka: And the contrast on a cheap paperback is WAY worse than you think it is.
If you're putting 50 CCs of butter on two pieces of toast, you should probably go ahead and order a real defibrillator too...
I'm pretty sure that these exceptions only apply to the DMCA and not to underlying copyright (or contract) law, so they can still sue you for making that same "illegal" copy of your DVD, or potentially violating some anti-reverse engineering clause in a software license (depending on jurisdiction), they just won't be…
@tk.: Indeed, I would love to be able to buy a book that would teach me how to not suck at competitive RTS play. I don't have to be great, I'd just like to be able to enjoy the experience :P
@N@tedog: It's my understanding that the physical effects of ejecting like that are often career ending for the pilot, so "okay" may be a relative term.
So someone somewhere must have done the opposite, i.e. shaved their head and gotten a helmet tattoo.
Heh, I went to Fry's last night to buy a spare HDMI cable, and it took like 5 minutes of digging past the $130 Monster Cable (and the $100, $80, $70, $60, $50, and $40 Monster Cable options) to get to the several $20-$25 options, then a few at $12-$13, and some returned ones for $11, but finally, there in the corner,…
@lycosman: To your point, the 3D for the animated parts of Avatar is quite well done, giving an incredible sense of depth and space (not that this actually changes the emotional impact of the film too much).
I think there's something unstoppably fundamental here, which is that your brain uses 3D as an aid to "parse" what it's seeing, but once it's decided what's there the information is discarded and the emotional impact of a 2D version of a 3D scene is going to be almost identical, at least when watching a movie.
So how much would it enhance the enjoyment of this one to play the first one beforehand? I.e. would it be worth it to play the less-perfect iPhone version of Monkey Island first, or does this one stand on its own?
Summary and article suggest electrons in wires are much slower than light, which is not true.
"The highly rarefied region above the chromosphere, called the corona, extends millions of kilometers into space. Temperatures in the corona are over 1,000,000 K."
@Ccomfort: Honestly if you're actually a completely normal person, and you have one of these, then you need to move.
