$75m can apparently buy a lot of influence.

This is absolutely Elon manipulating him into bankrupting the auto industry by playing on his desire to sound tough and his blind hate of anything and everything Mexican.

That brain dead moron still thinks tariffs would be paid by Mexico, just like his wall.

My immediate thought when looking at a picture with trump supporters is 1) They are paid to be there. 2) They are completely and utterly STUPID.

Protege was a great car. Friend had a Protege wagon. Few mods to the suspension and it was just an absolute joy to drive. Light, chuckable, predictable. Nothing boring about it. He sold it, bought a Mazdaspeed Protege, was even more fun.

First time I saw a Prius V I was blowen away by how much you could fit into one of those. Probably more cu. ft. than most CUVs today

It’s disappointing the BMW is sticking with its dual-use platform. The result is a compromised ICE setup and a compromised EV. I’d be interested in an EV M3, but not if it’s on a dual-use platform.

It is both a PR spin and fuel for right wing politicians who have or want non-union factories for making Toyotas & other Japanese cars. Keep in mind that Toyota doesn’t really care about the environment since they also made the V12 powered Toyota Century until recently. Like Honda they just want you to think they care

I wonder if Toyota was just as concerned about job losses due to robotics when they implemented automations on the lines at their plants?

Was just at the dealership to pick up some hard-to-source parts, for a car that is only 8-years-old.... (The average age of vehicles on the road is 12.6 years old, by the way.) While there, I found out their service department now charges $250 an hour. That’s in Denver.

i just finished reading an article in the ny times about how the defense industry is moving back to nuclear. maybe some of those presumably-soon-to-be-laid-off auto workers can move to connecticut and build submarines.

“Jobs across the horse and buggy industry will be lost with the pivot to the internal combustion engine”

The cuts could come as skilled jobs in “engine-related” work are lost as gas-powered motors are replaced by electric ones

Of course it’s going to cost jobs. Typewriters being replaced meant there wasn’t a need for people to fix them; Plotting printers meant there was no longer a need for drafters.

Losing jobs due to technical advancements is a story as old as the industrial revolution. Look at this picture compared to the lead one and see how many workers lost their jobs from robots.

I doubt many of them are smug. They have their own worries around getting a charge somewhere. A full charge in most EVs might get you to GA, assuming you don’t run the A/C. But the problem is the part of GA where you’re going to be stopping for a charge is also experiencing flooding.

I’d not visited Leasehackr... thanks for that suggestion... I’ve bookmarked it. To be sure, $200/mo. (assuming the same $2,500 down) is far better than the $300-400/mo. I saw with a quick google. Realistically, if I were moved to drive an Equinox EV, leasing would feel safer, even though I probably couldn’t take much

If Former President Shit for Brains wanted a tariff on mexican made autos, why didnt he bother negotiating it into his NAFTA 2.0.  He stated it was the greatest trade agreement ever.  I cant imagine his supporters will think that through, or that the media will spend more than a comment or two on it.  They let him say

Youtube should ban him immediately.

Repulsive little twat.
