When I originally moved to Boston, during the big dig, my 01 RAV4 was great. It soaked up those pot holes, fit in small parking spots, and had a stick.
Local roads are largely paid for with property taxes. Maybe sales tax in more regressive states.

No. People in buses should most definitely NOT have to wait in the same traffic as cars. Private cars are the least efficient way to get around, and should be penalized as such.
The blocked off area is meant to increase visibility. Seems better than having cars blocking the view.
