I don't know about "systemic social ill"-level problem but when I was coming home from Thanksgiving on the bus I looked out my window and some guy driving a big pickup truck had his junk right out and he was stroking away — not madly rubbing one out, more like mindlessly fondling. It was definitely one of those "WHOA…
I think it's also a position that plays to type. What do most people look for in a bodyguard? A big, toned, badass dude. What do a lot of women find really attractive? Big, toned, badass dudes.
I remember this story from TAL! I was ugly-cry-laughing so hard through the whole thing. The justification for the hair being too long (if I remember correctly it was something like it was making the younger sister's but itch) killed me. And then talking about their parents reaction? Top-notch kid logic.
Because the sad, scary fact is that many white people see POC as other than human:
It doesn't have to be. House Bolton DuPont will see to that.
Allow me to be "that" person. Technically the sternum strap is there to bring the straps closer together so the weight of your pack is centralized and not pinning your shoulders back, if that makes sense. It only really matters when you're carrying a lot of weight and/or hiking for long periods of time.
But if a woman or POC is the victim of a crime, and there's no white man available to validate it, how can we be sure it happened?!
MISSSSYYYYYYYY COME BAAAAACK! I don't know what we did to make you go away, but we need your jams now more than ever. I willingly offer myself Chris Brown as tribute!
Of course there are the "classics," Aretha, Pink, Carol King (Tapestry may be the most perfect pick-me-up album of all time, btw), etc. But I've been obsessed with this song "Desperation" by Judith Hill since I heard it in 20 Feet from Stardom. It's like Xanax in musical form.
In the first 38 minutes of Singles Day Alibaba made $1.63 BILLION - $750,000/second (in just ONE of their stores!). That's nearly $200K more than the US GDP/second. Just let that sink in for a minute.
Oh yeah, I've listened to the Slate podcast. And then there's this: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/splitthe… It's all so fascinating! I'm dying to know how this story will end.
Looking for recs for legit-good true crime/mystery, a la Under the Banner of Heaven, In Cold Blood, David Simon, Richard Price, Serial podcast, etc. (I'm also interested in fictional narratives too, but good true crime is harder to find.)
OMG Serial! I was collating a stupid-big proposal earlier and was crushed by the realization that the new episode isn't out till Thursday. Super suckfest.
Granted, it was Sarah Lawrence, but when I was in college we had two weeks a year (Sleaze Week in the fall, and Coming Out Week in the spring) set aside for sex-positive programming. For example, a female ejaculation workshop, complete with a live demonstration.
I've been balls-to-the-wall busy with work the last few weeks so I've been in a black hole and just remembered today that I have a party to go to. During my lunch hour I went out an bought a slip and a black sharpie, with which to write phrases like "Id" "Oedipus" "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" — voila: Freudian…
Nobody puts Lucy in a corner!
According to this the the CA law was signed on Sept. 29th. If the lawsuit was just filed this week, how would the application be retroactive?
