Yup, Allison 250 it looks like. I got to take one of these apart in aircraft mechanic school a few months back. Very cool engine. We had to be able to explain the fuel control as well, which was very very interesting. Thing weighs about the same as a VW bug engine and in some configurations can put out 700hp.

That Allison 250 is a free-turbine engine, like a PT-6. That means that the power turbine isn’t connected to the gas generator turbine, and when the thing is starting up and running at sub-ground-idle rpm there isn’t enough gas pressure on the power turbine to move it much (notice how slowly the blades turn until the

Well, I bet it worked at least as well as rubbing gums with bourbon.

I’m wondering about couch-potato homosexuals—are they OK?

Eh, eastern Oregon. Typical.

Well, there’s this

It could be worse.

Yeah, generally you don’t want to use a pencil on bare metal that gets hot—sharpies are better, since carbon from pencil graphite can be absorbed into the metal at high temps and cause embrittlement. Of course this is painted. . .

Kittenjoy, I found the picture they have in the lobby!!! It’s this one:

Apparently low-aspect ratio wings have a less distinct stall than high-aspect wings, and may be able to mush forward at high angles of attack. Still, 45° seems exaggerated, and even if the the leading edge slats were enough to keep it somewhat flying, the lift/drag ratio would have been terrible.

Yeah, except for gyro gunsights, proximity fused artillery, nuclear weapons, homing torpedoes. . . the Germans had some flashy tech, but they weren’t miracle workers. And often they wasted scarce resources on romantic projects like the V-2.
