I agree. It was important that Lagertha had this reason to leave, because it would have been acceptable in this society for Ragnar to have a second partner and sire children with her. Lagertha could have remained queen but as you say, her rival's fecundity was too painful. This show is a lot more than viking soap,

This reviewer has missed many layers. Floki and Helga took a promiscuous Norse warrior to bed, while Ragnar and Helga sought a threesome with the pure, Christian monk; a deliberate opposition to underline the tension between Floki's adherence to Norse gods/ways and Ragnar's thirst for new cultures.
