CA is 42nd in gun violence while Mississippi is 3rd. Certainly there are amy factors involved but there seems to be a clear connection between gun violence and gun laws.  

Agreed that legislation at the federal level would be far more effective but, with certain exceptions, there is a correlation between gun violence and gun laws.

No candidate or party has made a dent in decades? That is false. Look at state government and compare California to Mississippi. At the state level, the Democratic party has taken effective measures but guns cross state borders.  

Agreed with all the points above. I left my dog in the car briefly, after taking her to the beach, while I went grocery shopping. The car was in the shade in San Francisco.
