It seems to me that the answer might be legal. I can imagine benefits if both women were listed as mothers in the birth certificate and if both could make a biological claim to the child. Given the ongoing threats to LGBT rights, particularly in TX, that security might be worth $8000.

It is a very good point. Also I’d add that internalized racism isn’t the only possible cause—the racism in police departments is systemic. That’s why activists are not calling for departments (just) to cull racists members, but also to reform their training and tactics.

I see these protestors as reminding Trump that most American voters did not vote for him.
