I feel like I read somewhere (maybe in the biography Evenings With Cary Grant?) how Audrey’s character being the aggressor was one of Grant’s conditions for taking the role. He did not want to be seen as the pursuer given their age difference.

Charade is sort of a perfect movie. The age gap between Hepburn and Grant doesn’t detract I think because she is the aggressor, and he is Cary Grant 

I found an old episode of “Week in Rock” with Kurt Loder the other day. It was from the mid-late 90s, and I couldn’t believe how they used to talk to us as if we were actually intelligent.

On the other hand, this is what appears to be a thoughtful news piece on the 2024 AV Club. How did that happen?

Scary how easy cultural erasure has become. I agree this is a necessary point to make, even if the last time I paid attention to MTV News it was a TV show hosted by Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren.

The tone of this piece is bleak. And accurate. 

Seeing musicians I like do it really well live is basically the biggest hit of positive emotion I get as an adult, I don’t cry but I don’t blame her for crying.

I feel like if anyone deserves the benefit of a doubt on one of these “controversies,” Dave Grohl is the one.

It’s a bit like how Dave Barry used to make fun of those cereal ads that showed a bowl of cereal next to eggs, toast, and fruit claiming that the cereal was “part of this complete breakfast!” As Barry said, don’t you really mean “adjacent to this complete breakfast”?

Grohl has a talk show bit about how Swift “saved” him during a party at Paul McCartney’s house: he was asked to play a song but was too out of it (presumably drunk)

Child, I am old enough to have made many mistakes, wronged people I cared about, and being given second chances with debatable amounts of deservedness. There’s a big difference between genuine penance and having almost zero consequences for your actions, let alone being officially rewarded for it. Fuck you.

Surely there are more deserving people. Without getting into it too much, I spent the last year consumed by fear and stress. I went to court and the judge ruled that my landlord was allowed to evict me. I appealed, lost again, but because I made enough money working 70 hour weeks with little food or sleep, losing 85…

I just don’t agree Hollywood is the *most* morally bankrupt place on the planet, nor that it has the *most* morally bankrupt people in the world, that’s all.

I dunno’. The Catholic Church still seems worse to me.
