So there are no superheroes or supernatural monsters in this at all? Not even a ghost, at least?

It depends what you mean by “a success.” If you mean “make a short-term windfall for the owners,” then pretty much all of them do. If you mean “continue to provide goods and services to consumers,” then what are you some kind of commie?
not sure if this is a trap for the most ‘well actually’ response ever, but those aren’t mcu movies.
Did I miss something? Was the 1% part of their contracts or not?
And damn good in it, too. His character was better than the villain it ended on.
I think I remember reading somewhere that in order for actors to even join a the Screen Actor’s Guild they’ve got to work in the industry for at least 30 days. But also there is some merit/point system. I might be getting the Writer’s Guild and the Actor’s Guild guidelines crossed but I don’t think they can start from…
There is some fascinating capitalization going on in that image.
This. It seems really difficult for some people to wrap their heads around how creatives love what they do so much, many are just happy to be able to do it at all, much less be compensated for it, and how that can push artists to undervalue their skills and talent. It’s easy to say all these years later, “wElL yOu…
It’s not unusual for actors to be abused, nor is it unusual for promises of a share of the profits to come to nothing due to shady accounting practices, nor is it unusual for non-union contracts to include rights to the actors’ names and likenesses in perpetuity, but this really stood out to me from the Variety…
I seem to remember a cool little network of blogs that was struggling for years to find a devoted userbase and dozens of talented writers until a kindly old group of billionaires stepped in to help them out. And that little network of blogs, whom nobody liked, grew up to be... sold off piece by piece until maybe one …
The thing is, a company only gets sold to a PE firm if it’s already fucked up. So you’re kinda looking a sample set that’s already headed for failure.
Alamo Drafthouse was already circling the drain when they were bought, IIRC.
I work in finance, and our firm sells companies to PE groups all the time. A PE-backed company is actually less likely to go under than a privately-owned one, because if it’s struggling then the investors can put more money in to support it (and have more resources for troubleshooting). Granted some of these groups…
I think he would have been a great Clark/Superman, but man am I glad there was never a Ratner directed Superman.
GIMME FOO GIMME FAI GIMME DABAJABAZA
They had to de-age Hetfield, because if they used what he looks like now the kids’d think it’s a Witcher crossover.
Yeh-heah!
There are definitely obvious nods to Les Miz, Oklahoma, and others, but Mountain Town sounds a lot like the opening of Beauty and the Beast, and Up There is clearly Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid. It’s worth noting that the writer, Alan Menken, was a Broadway guy. Disney is also currently the biggest…
“Uncle Fucker” was robbed at the Oscars. Having a title you can’t say on a worldwide broadcast aside, it was the best song in a film that year by a country mile.
