I adore how the stakes are basically “Prevent his wife/kid from moving to Florida” instead of “save the city/country/world/universe from Threat X”.

Yeah, there are some of the swings at comedy whiff pretty hard. The show’s at its absolute weakest when it’s trying to be funny and infinitely better when it sticks to the core story, its characters, and the action.

As a long-time GM with little prior exposure to Critical Role, this show has been pleasant overall. Lots of the character and story tropes are pretty well-worn in the fantasy tabletop world, but were executed entreatingly here. 

That GIF reminds me of my distaste for the current trend of the “franchise splash screen” alongside the other company logos. DC shows and movies have it too. Yeah, dumbass, I know I’m watching a thing from that franchise. You could’ve saved me a few second, y’know?
