If you are on a roadtrip whether it be to the other end of a state or across a whole country, the best stop by FAR is for any fast food opportunity that no longer exists where you live.  In New York, going from downstate to upstate meant you could stop at that one rest stop with a Roy Rogers.

I’m a substation engineer.  “Winterizing the power grid”.....not a thing.  It would be an understatement to say that modifying all existing infrastructure to account for a US Northeast type weather condition is a MASSIVE undertaking.  It couldn’t be done in 5 years with unlimited $.

I too had that worry. Once the car is up in the air on them, you can pretty much shake it as hard as you’d like side to side. It will not move any meaningful amount. I have since rolled from front to back on a creeper underneath the quickjacks without worry.

On a 1998 Volvo s70/V70, you can tune it to high heaven with your check engine light on, and then yank the ECU and plug it back in 5 minutes before the state inspection. In New York at least, there’s an exemption for these cars and the emission monitors don’t have to be set. Might apply to earlier years, but I’m not…
