Uh, we know, dude. Kotaku is not a government agency. What you are commenting on is not a law or bill or proposed city ordinance. It is a blog containing an opinion about what Ash (and, incidentally, a whole lot of other people) would like to see happen in the future of video games. It is aspirational — a request for…
sure, and people can criticize them if they’re not happy with the choices developers make. it’s a two way street, mate.
Maybe they should have pulled those games. Maybe if these digital storefronts stop carrying broken games it would give publishers incentive to not release broken games. CDPR doesn’t care about you dude, you gain nothing by defending them.
Most Hollywood stuff is done by union labor. Almost all video game work is done by non-union labor. Might have something to do with that.
I mostly agree, and of course this isn’t a review of anything. However, I do think an argument could be made that previous behaviour that affects customers is pertinent information?
Of course, the far bigger issue is that a loud proportion of Cyberpunk 2077 purchasers (and indeed any other big-name game) don’t want reviews at all. They want reassurance. They paid for this game nearly two years ago, for whatever illogical reason (“I’m supporting the massive multi-million dollar company!”),…
Angry vocal “Gamers” are an exhausting lot of emotionally stunted morons.
This was a great read. Thank you for it, and I’m sorry you are being harassed because you didn’t say Cyberpunk was the second coming of Jesus like everyone expected.
In video game criticism, the term “writing” refers not only to the overarching story, but to every line of dialog, every staged situation and scenario, every mission and all in-game text. While the story had weaknesses, this is not at all the same thing as “poorly written.”
A large portion of those who “hated it” never played it. They read the story leaks, let their homophobic and/or transphobic anger come out, and have littered any online coverage of the game every day since. Some go the extra step and send anti-Semitic slurs at Neil Druckmann. They’ll hide behind Joel’s fate, but not…
Whether you loved or hated the story and its messages, it is hard to imagine somebody arguing effectively and in good faith that The Last of Us Part II was anything less than exceptionally well-made and well-written.
Can’t wait to see her reviews of the consoles. Surprised it’s not linked in the story. Maybe I missed it.
Yeah dude. Once somebody even says SJW I realize that the convo is worthless.
Same. It is unfailingly toxic. Gamergate broke all of my faith in the community at large.
Because there are almost zero negative repercussions for threatening people over the internet.
Despite this experience, Zinda continues to stream and still thinks of the gaming industry as being a good and transformative place for her and others.
All of this is why gamers constantly get bad reputations as being petulant babies. That Griffin Gaming channel, regardless of intent or accuracy, is straight whining and re-uploading on other platforms, while still full of delicate-ego little boys in the comment section. Let’s just say for the sake of argument that he…
Garbage fucking incels.
The people hating on her need to learn the difference between guilting Sony and Microsoft versus holding them to account for the commitments to supporting diversity that they’ve publicly affirmed. There’s a fine line but she definitely stands on the right side of it.
