Yep, because Europeans have never ever done anything bad to people of color ever
Already knew this was going to be here:
Why dont YOU fly to Hong Kong and shoot the CCP in its facist face, then, Mr. High Horse.
Notwithstanding that, doesn’t that make it pretty obvious that then perhaps Blizzard should have reacted in a different way?
Counterpoint, this blowing up the way it has brings even more attention to it and is a worthwhile thing to discuss and examine. Was it predictable? Yes. Was it acceptable? Absolutely not.
Agreed.
It’s a little easier for me, as I’ve been checked out of Blizzard properties almost entirely since Mists of Pandaria (and I barely came back to WoW for that), so cutting them off costs me nothing I wasn’t already doing—but if I were still doing business with them, I’d absolutely cease over this.
Shutting down…
I dunno about you, but I’m boycotting them going forward until they come up with a more reasonable stance on this issue. Censorship of competitors who are calling for more democracy, of all things, is absolutely beyond the pale. The fact that it offends an authoritarian regime doesn’t matter.
Correct, yes, they should not be operating in China if China requires them to be complicit in totalitarianism.
Ultimately, everything is political. I forget who actually said it, but the aphorism that we do not have to take an interest in politics for politics to take an interest in us is absolutely true—and it’s of vital importance to the present situation.
More importantly, Acti-Blizz (and the NBA, and South Park) took a…
Game companies shouldn’t be bending over backwards to support authoritarian regimes which are abusing people. I’m kind of bewildered that’s become a mildly controversial statement to make.
ahahaha he had to dismiss my reply pointing out his taking the time to make sure I know that he doesn’t care what I say ahahahahahahaha
It’s big but it’s not bigger than the non-Chinese gaming market. The problem is that access to the western market is generally open and unrestricted, and each consumer has the choice.
I guess you don’t much believe in making a change from the inside?
I don’t know if I do, either, but it’s funny how it always comes down to the little people making sacrifices to uphold their principles and the people who are actually doing the offending continue to go on offending without feeling a bit of pain.
They…
I don’t begrudge people who decide to try direct action. I cancelled my Hearthstone game with my sister tonight, just hoping Blizzard will wake up and do the right thing. But I’m afraid it’ll all be for nothing, and that’ll be one fewer of the (increasingly diminishing) big publishers I can stand to do business with.
Hilarious you’re calling the Chinese Socialists? Is that a joke? I can’t tell. What do you think that word means?
They most certainly have that right.
Did they, though? Because I would rather pay for it than grind for weeks/months...
Except that I imagine they’re about to have a fun time explaining to a court how this isn’t an unfair restraint of trade relying on an abuse of the trust implicit to the original contract for a new competitor (and therefore violating the Sherman Act). I’m assuming it’s bureaucratic nonsense that will resolve before it…
