I paid some lady put braids in my hair the last few days of my honeymoon in the Bahamas because the ladies on the beach wouldn’t fucking leave me alone asking to braid my hair every day, and I thought why not. Such a mistake. My scalp got sunburned in between the braids, which then peeled off in long strips. Cultural

Jesus for real i remember getting made fun of my braids when i was little, its how i made my first friend in pre school :) she’s black and Im mexican and she came up to me and said WE HAVE THE SAME HAIR!!!!! :) so fuck the kardashians I've been rocking braids since 1996

I think you mean Reverse Freedom braid.

This movie (10) came out in 1979 and the braids were a topic of conversation. It was appropriation then and it is now. But it isn’t new appropriation.

I love Yvette Nicole Brown’s response to this “trend” so I’ll just leave this here

Reverse French braid?

Well, kudos to Cortana’s developers for at least entertaining the notion that someone might turn to their cellphone this way.

American weddings seem to be very different from weddings in Germany. If people here were expected to spend such amounts of money, most would politely decline. Bridesmaids are uncommon, though not unheard of.

Stood up in a friend’s wedding a couple years ago. She instructed us to wear LBDs, and bought us fabulous clutches as our gifts/thing to carry in lieu of a bouquet . It was beautiful and fun and cost me a grand total of $6 (I got mine at a thrift shop). It was all lovely.

I have conflicted feelings about porn but I 100% agree with you about people coming here every time there is an article like this and making a case that women who like to be degraded or have the occasional rape fantasy are nut jobs.

Being the victim of a horrible crime didn’t miraculously give her vast insight and knowledge. She’s a beginner at this.

Gross. I’m sorry she experienced abuse but those shirts are... creepy. Not sure how it even remotely raises awareness.

I understand the issues with porn, consent in the business (especially after that James Deen shitshow) and the social impact it has, especially on young men.

I watch porn but not that much. But when I do watch....and when I do have sex I like some of the things people are ragging on here and while I can understand that

Yeah, totally! I mean, I can’t hate on her for her hustle and I guess if it brings money to an actual charity that does good work, then cool. But honestly, these shirts seem more to be something to promote Christy Mack as a performer than to promote any awareness for DV. Maybe part of it is the promotor/vendor? Like,

But I’m aware of the ice bucket challenge now! It worked

Yeah, don't beat women just beat off, screams the shirt. I get they are trying to target the men but it's going to go right over their heads. Well, one of their heads.

I clicked over there because I like Mack, I have been following everything she’s gone through since that day, and I would theoretically be interested in purchasing a t-shirt to “support” the cause if the style and design were something I’d wear.

Those...are...not the style and design I’d wear.

Yeah, not seeing it. I mean good for her, I hope she continues to be successful and I hope she can raise a lot of money for a good cause, but if I saw a dude wearing one of these shirts, I would just think they were a gross dude with zero problem objectifying women. I think part of the issue is how many people really

“Raising awareness” is a dubious goal in general, and I don’t see how these images are supposed to do anything but raise... other things.

These are some of the shirt designs. What, in these, gives the anti-violence message?
