No, it’s not. A golf tournament wouldn’t be interchangeable with another tournament, for fairly obvious reasons - it’s an event in time, a measure of the player’s performance at that moment.

Given that most of his plays were, in themselves, adaptations of earlier material, I honestly don’t think he’d much care so long as he was getting a cut somewhere or other. Besides, it’s not as if this would be the first time the plays had been Bowdlerized anyway; it’s where the term comes from, after all.
I disagree; Shakespeare wrote for his audience and would have agreed with other writers adapting to a different setting and time. Let’s stop acting like this was some form of sacred scripture, his plays were meant to appeal to the half-drunk rowdies in the pits just as much as the nobles.
