Don’t forget the Mazda3 turbo in this segment as well. If you don’t mind an automatic, it’s a fantastic car, sedan or hatchback, and in sedan form it’s close to the pricepoint of the WRX/GTI/Si.

The Honda Accord 2.0T and Mazda6.
My friend’s parents had an Xterra and he loved it. Unfortunately it got junked a few years back but he keeps talking about wanting another one.
When I had a panic attack in ~September of 2019, 2 months later, I noticed a HUGE amount of hair being shed in the shower. Then I started to see through my scalp. That only served to give my anxiety room to grow. Ever since I have just seen more of my scalp as time has gone on. I’m fairly certain it’s stress, because…
Yeah, kinda. I had long hair before I cut it shorter (by like 6-8 inches) 3 months ago and I’m still somewhat getting used to it.
Fin can only slow down the process, not halt it entirely. Stress-induced hairloss can actually make balding worse. I’ve been on it for 3 years now and I’m fairly certain the constant stress in my life has caused me to lose quite a bit compared to when I started fin.
For me I feel like having hair just frames my face. Without it my facial shape is absolutely horrific. It’s not that I care so much about other people, it’s me not liking how I look and finding no one way to cope. That’s what triggered the panic attacks the first time around.
No one’s noticed my thin spots, but they are diffused all over. I’ve got a weird genetic profile - I’m really not attracted to anyone, maybe guys to a slight extent, but for some reason I never experienced sexual attraction. I just hate how anytime I comb it there’s always some spot that shows through to the scalp and…
I’m actually on finasteride, been on it for 3 years. I’m pretty sure it’s stress doing it to me, and apparently stress can accelerate MPB from what I’ve read.
Thanks David! Honestly I’m thankful it’s at a point where it’s not super noticeable but I know eventually I’ll have to figure it out. Your words are encouraging though! I’m staring my 27th birthday down in less than 2 weeks and my dad already said I have far more than he did at that age.
I’m 26, have been losing my hair since 22ish, and despite being on meds I’m still losing it. All it’s been doing is driving my anxiety/depression into the sky along with everything else that has driven it to the sky lately. And I was told panic attacks can cause you to lose it and I have had quite a bit of those…
Been treating me great. I’m much more comfortable with driving it and the more relaxed nature helps with my anxiety. I’ve also looked at other anxiety sources and come to terms with them as well, as well as just finding ways to make improvements for my mental health in general. So yes - the Mazda has been a great help…
I don’t like this subscription model for car features. At all. I think I’m just going to be sticking to buying used from now on if that’s the direction we’re going in. I’ve driven plenty of cars that have similar technology (although it’s not autonomous) that don’t charge you by the month to use.
Thankfully I’ve been in therapy for about a month now, and it’s been helping a lot. Anxiety sucks though. Real bad.
2007. It had the very problematic 4cyl motor that apparently had a ton of oil burning issues but I wasn’t sure if mine was affected by that or not.
I had an old RAV4. I miss that thing. The transmission decided to end it’s life (???) about a year after I bought it used, so that was a painful lesson, but it was super easy to drive and comfortable. So I can see why they are everywhere. They are good cars.
Most of my worries are closely related to my diagnosed anxiety and panic disorders, but:
Neutral: Well, I sold my Type R on Wednesday and now have the pleasure of owning a much more comfortable and sedate Mazda3 Grand Touring hatchback. I’m really excited to go driving in it without having to worry about the things I worried about in the Type R. So I’m doing good!
I just bought a Mazda3 (last generation, sadly) as a replacement for my CTR. However, I am very happy with how the Mazda is designed and drives. I test drove the new 3 as well and if I had a bit more money I would’ve sprung for one of those.
Hey guys - just wanted to follow up and let you guys know I actually got the courage to trade in my Type R on Wednesday. I no longer own it. I now am the proud owner of a 2017 Mazda3 Grand Touring Hatchback with the 6speed automatic transmission!
