That was in the good old pre-kinja days. It will be great of you can share the post on GT.
That was in the good old pre-kinja days. It will be great of you can share the post on GT.
When trying to post on GT, I only get the option to post on my personal blog :( I have already done that.
This is completely off topic and I apologize for that. I don't have posting privileges on Kinja and missed out on the weekend open threads.
"These arguments included accounts of LE [locally employed] staff: removing children from school, cutting back to one meal a day, sending children to sell water or little cakes or toiletries on the streets ... employees depending on salary advances and defaulting on loans in order to cover basic expenses ...…
Replying to my own post because Kinja won't let me edit point 4 where I wanted to add why people in India are wary of American imperialism.
I pretty much agree with everyone that visa fraud and not paying her maid enough money are serious offenses and she must be punished for them. As an Indian, I also agree that the Indian government is over-reacting in all the outrage. However, I would like to address some of the points being raised by a number of…
Even in this post, there is no mention of the fact that the original study was published in Nature and Ars Technica is only reporting on that study. Oh, the irony.
One correction - the actual study is published in Nature (Larivière V et al, Nature, Dec 11, 2013). Ars Technica is just reporting on the study. Here is a link to the original study
A well wrapped saree is usually more slimming than any other clothing on pretty much everybody. Your problem might be in the drape. It might also depend on the fabric...a heavier silk fabric that falls close to your body looks more sleek than starched cotton or a number of synthetic fabrics.
I get annoyed because to me (ironically) they often make the saree look less sexy. Part of this might also be because I like more traditional weaves and fabrics in sarees (as opposed to the net sarees that seem to be all over the place these days) and a beautiful silk or cotton blouse matching a saree adds to the…
Totally not the point here but I get really annoyed when a saree is worn with a strapless blouse (like the woman on his right) or one of those spaghetti strap ones like Mandira Bedi often wears.
I am happy about all the recommendations I am getting for Amy Adams movies. I think the first time I saw her in a movie was Enchanted.
Thanks for the recommendation. I requested it from my library.
I didn't even see that. I am not on twitter so most of my knowledge of this story comes from Gawker media. But yeah, what is the point of taking a picture of the seat number.
Amy Adams is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I recently saw her in "Sunshine Cleaning". It was a movie I had never heard of before but had her and Emily Blunt as sisters. They were both really good but Amy Adams was amazing at conveying sadness and disappointment combined with a will to fight in her character…
That is a pretty interesting take on the whole situation. Even though I am not white or a man, I had never thought about the white male privilege inherent in this guys behavior. I agree that this piece is still worth reading because hoax or no hoax, the majority reaction on the internet would have been very different…
I was pretty sure it was a hoax but none of my friends believed me. It just seemed strange that you could have all this note passing on a flight...specially one that was delayed and probably had many annoyed passengers and over worked flight attendants.
Sort of related but not really...what does the Jezebel commentariat think about Diana Gabaldon's Outlander? I had heard great things about it - time travel, historical fiction, strong female character, hot guy, lots of sex - I was so looking forward to reading it...and then I read it. (Sorry for that long, poorly…
I think some of the state governments in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh (two Indian states that most of the migrant workers in the gulf come from) have some rehabilitation schemes though I have no idea how well run or effective they end up being. The thing that makes all this worse for me, as an Indian, is that most of…
Your point about men being victims of slavery and trafficking reminds me of an experience that has stayed with me. I am Indian and usually go from US to India through Europe but this one time I had to take a flight from Bahrain to Mumbai. When the flight attendants gave out the forms for customs and immigration, they…
