The deathtoll from cyclists hitting pedestrians, even adjusted for mileage and density is basically irrelevant. 

There is no reason why bikes shouldn’t be allowed on the sidewalk - at least in low pedestrian density areas.

I live in Australia - its hot and humid here. I ride a class 1 e-bike to work - it’s only about 4km, but the e-bike cooling effect is enough that I’m not sweaty when I get to work.
