@iphone_myphone: I'm not going to belittle the primary purpose of the bumper or any other phone case. It's a frugal investment, end of discussion. But with the iPhone, frankly the only reason I'd buy it over an Android phone is because it's fantastically sexy. And I want my sexy phones to stay naked.

@JS_Drupal: That actually does raise a good question: Do folks who use the iPhone Bumper have this same problem? I would assume not. Of course, it's absurd to think you have to buy a $30 accessory to get your phone to work as advertised.

@DanielJ: At the moment yes. But it's an open video chat protocol so clients will likely be developed for any and all other platforms soon (albeit not by Apple.)

This reminds me of the old-as-dirt joke about the guy who goes to a doctor and says, "It hurts when I do this," and the doctor says, "Don't do that."

@msatlas: Why did they not mention this in the article? Sigh.

@diverguy: It's tough to tell on the internet. Unless it's blatently obvious tounge-in-cheek, usually people are just idiots.

So if it's not hardware limiting the 3G's speed, what else could it possibly be?

Considering most hoodies run at the egregiously absurd price of about $30, and your typical cheap earbuds another $10, this is not a bad deal .... if I was satisfied with cheap earbuds. Or if I wore hoodies.

@Gregory Gammill: It's a 3.5mm jack, not an iPod dock. So it'll virtually work with any mp3 player on earth. Or a walkman. Or portable 8-track player.

@NuevoLeon: Yep. Busted a Blackberry and a G1 which Square replaced, almost no questions asked. My cellular carrier does offer phone insurance at $6/month, but the deductible on Smartphones is more than the one-time fee from Square.

WTF, Google Voice is on iPhones now? When did Apple unreject it from the App Store?

Yep. SquareTrade is awesome. I already know this.

@Christopher Lee: That's what I was thinking as I wrote this wish. No way the battery could support a screen like that and last 10 hours.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the Droid X's performance in this comparison. Yes a macro photograph is not the best way to judge, and putting aside the fact that I've held neither devices in real life, I think I'd prefer the Droid X's larger screen size to the iPhone's higher resolution.

@sammanzhi: Funnily enough, the ppi of the iPhone's screen is higher than the dpi most paperbacks are printed at.

You expected the line to move quickly? I've stood for a half hour when there was only one person ahead of me at my local cellular franchise.

The most common call I get as the local "the people down the road charge $75/hour but Paul will do it for free" IT person is, "My computer isn't working. It has a virus."

@Joshua L Lewis: Nope, no AM3 bracket came with mine (I have an AM2 so it wasn't an issue). I read though that if you call Gigabyte they will send you the appropriate bracket for free. I'd call/email first to confirm this of course.

So the io9 folks are torrent pirates as well. Hmm.
