I sort of find it funny when people reply with “well, in this area, it’s hard to not be in an HOA”. My opinion? If you are passionately against HOAs, but a particular area only has HOAs, then you are free to move to a new area. HOAs are almost non-existent in my neck of the woods and we have sprawling suburbs too.

So live just outside the populated area, problems solved.

Not so cut and dry. In many suburbs and exurbs, HOAs or neighborhood associations are the norm, especially if the suburbs in question was built in the last two decades. There are places where you have no choice but to live with an HOA. The key here is legislation that would curb the power of HOA and the kind of rules…
