It is a sweet truck for sure, and a pickup always comes in handy, buy you’ll be able to buy a brand spanking new base model Wrangler pickup for not much more cash pretty soon.

That’s the real problem. Dealerships are struggling to justify their existence and distilling entire process down to filling out an online form would not help them in that regard - no matter how convenient it would be for the customer.
It seems like most of the crossovers reviewed latetly are being rated as very capable offroad for having the ability to take on a well-maintained dirt roads. Did you honestly drive this anywhere that the average Corolla couldn’t go?
Great news! Was really starting to lament the lack of options in the lifestyle-oriented, luxury/performance crossover space!
If I owned a bloated, silver potato car I guess I’d probably say screw it, just let the computer drive the damn thing.
Preach it brother Elhigh!
I’m skeptical...it is almost impossible to find a new car on a lot that isn’t silver, white, or gray. Wacky two-tone pain schemes seem like a bit of a stretch outside of the realm of exotics.
It’s not the consumer’s responsibily to cover a business’s high overhead costs. Convienience is worth the extra expense to some buyers, but not all. That’s the point of Tom’s article.
I’m guessing the difference all comes down to gadgets. The luxury brands have more complex infotainment and navigation features, not to mention heated seats, adaptive cruise control etc.
It really is too bad that a stripped down, off-road oriented model of the G Wagon was never offered in the US.
I worry such tech may actually encourage even worse driving...as in it is totally fine to post Instagram pics of my doggy while driving because my car is soooo smart and safe!
Huh. I had always thought those swirly aluminum instrument panels on this era of GM vehicles were cheap, tacky aftermarket accessories. Hard to belive they were factory...although it was the 70's I suppose.
Agreed. This should be part of the test for any vehicle with off road intentions...or pretensions. Most soft roaders are driven down a dirt road with a handful of fist sized rocks and rubber stamped by auto journos as having “good off-road ability!”
To be fair I have a HF tool chest that is very sturdy and made from sheet metal that is about twice as thick as what is on my Jeep.
You are not only obese, but also obtuse. Most crossovers only ride .5-1 inch higher than the cars they are based on-the difference in floor height is negligible. Enjoy being the king of the road Napoleon!
Sounds like you are too short, clumsy, and obese to successfully drive a normal car like a normal person...no reason to call everyone else idiots!
The hate comes from the fact that it is tall for tall’s sake. Tall is in. Tall is the new long; like the comical land yachts of the 70's where longer = better.
This argument seems oddly familiar...I feel like you are some sort of Crossover Batman, coming out of the shadows to defend innocent crossovers whenever they are threatened...
Yup. Seems like a waste. Cayenne buyers will never appreciate, much less even remotely care about, all of this amazing tech. Porsche could slap its badge on a Hyundai Santa Fe and it would sell just as well.
