Haven’t seen it yet so I will make the obligatory “can we please have a stripper G-wagon with a diesel motor and knobby tires for $40k?” post. Seriously, it would probably add some mall crawler cred and help sell more of these V12 beasts.

Prettymuch a gathering of smug, disconnected white people with too much money and time on their hands so no big surprise about the helicopters. Kind of like the Kentucky Derby for trustafarians.
Good article, I would argue that unibody trucks and SUVs can do truck and SUV things adequately if designed from a clean sheet, the XJ Cherokee is a pefect example. Most of the negative reputation comes from kludgy platform sharing that manufacturers use to cut corners and save costs. The new Cherokee is the perfect…
+1 or alternatively a Mazda 5, preferably with manual. Cherokees, old Volvos and the like are great but are certain to need frequent work given their age, might not be ideal without a garage, tools etc.
As a youngish professional I’d prefer to risk being a douchenozzle in a Camaro than a pantywaist in an Audi Q3.
Local woman with poor taste in vehicles drives poorly. Details at 11.
And those people typically buy the largest CUV/SUVs that they can afford because there may potentially be a time at some yet to be determined point in the semi-near future when they need to transport a small bookcase home from Ikea.
What New Car Do You Want To Buy Right Now?
I don’t know why the myth that automatics are better off road persists, it really isn’t that tough to work 3 pedals and you do have better control over the vehicle. My full size Bronco has a stick and I have never gotten stuck or had trouble controling the truck because of the transmission. In fact, being able to…
I hope so, I would love a new “real” SUV but can’t stomach paying $40k for a new 4runner or Wrangler or $35k for a used one with 75,000 miles. Hopefully there will be more options (and competition) once the CUV craze loses steam.
It looks like a chewed up old hightop shoe that’s just been taken out of the washing machine. As a millennial I’d be embarrassed as hell to be seen driving this thing.
What self-respecting Indian can’t drive stick? Thought that was a lazy American thing.
Eh, I’d be less ashamed to drive a PT Cruiser than I would any CUV.
Torque Ratios
Aside from a Mormon co-worker who had six kids and a boat I’ve never encountered anyone who owned an Excursion who wasn’t a complete dickhead. It is THE car to have for angry middle aged white guys and flat bill bros, somehow it is still insanely popular even 11 years after the last one was built.
Some cars have such strong resale values that it doesn’t make sense to buy used, I’m considering a Wrangler, 4Runner, or Tacoma and prices for examples that are 1-2 years old with 10-30k miles are typically only a few hundred less than new MSRP.
Heh, if that were the case I wouldn’t see thirty people on my way to work driving nearly new cars yet still blathering into their phones held 3 inches from their mouths in speaker mode. The average person is incredibly inept and too lazy to take the time to set up something as simple as Bluetooth even if it means…
Corvette douche vs BMW douche, which is worse? A question for the ages.
Good advice, will check out the Tacoma!
This is a problem, I’m in the market for a new truck or SUV under $35k that is capable of tackling moderately difficult off-road trails. I keep coming back to the Wrangler, Tacoma and Frontier, which are really the only vehicles that meet that criteria. Base trim Ram 1500s or F150s CAN be optioned with rear lockers,…
