Also, FYI, Chaldean is not European. They’re from the Middle East, and mostly Christian, and speak Aramaic and usually also Arabic.

Uh, Turkey didn’t exist in the 1700s. The Ottomans had to commit a couple of genocides and rebrand themselves first. Turkish nationalism is a new thing. Most of their modern culture is from the people they murdered.

Uh, Turks didn’t inhabit Anatolia (or at least in any significant numbers) until the Seljuk invasions of the 11th century. It is grossly anachronistic to call St. Nicholas “Turkish.” He was a Greek inhabitant of the Roman Empire who lived 800 years before Turks conquered Anatolia.

The 4th century inhabitants of Asia Minor (i.e. modern Turkey) were quite ethnically dissimilar from modern Turks who trace their ancestry to central Asia (i.e. modern Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc). St. Nicholas was ethnically Greek and living in what was at the time a part of the Roman empire.
